general info
Kamionka Stara
[The Ukrainians] murdered over 20 Poles from 5 births, including the 99‑year‑old old woman Maszkowska and the 60‑year‑old widow Magdalena Kołodyńska, who was strangled by „by Ukrainian” insurgents with a horse shackle. „Andrzej Bukowski from Wrocław tells about the escape to Huta Stepańska, basing on the memories of his grandparents and Sigismud's uncle: — The Bukowski family lived in a small (42 farms) village of Stara Kamionka. They were prepared that in the event of a Banderite attack, they would flee to Huta Stepańska, 3 kilometers away. The most important things necessary for survival were packed on the wagon. At the signal of the village's night watch about the commencement of the Bandera attack, the Bukowski family with a loaded wagon ran away. Unfortunately, while driving ford across the Gołubica river, the loaded car got stuck. You had to unleash the horses and run away with nothing. Happily taking refuge in Huta, already during the siege of the following night, Grandpa Bukowski took a risk and set off for the wagon he had left, from which he managed to bring some food and tobacco. In Huta, having no firearms, he ended up in the so—called scythes, armed with their own pikes, spears and scythes cut to the edge. Thanks to the vigilance of the night watch and earlier preparations to escape, most of the inhabitants of Stara Kamionka managed to escape to Huta Stepańska — 11 people died. The monument—cross was erected in 2010 on the site of the non—existent village of Stara Kamionka. It was funded by the Bukowski family and was built by Janusz Horoszkiewicz”.
