Bolesław / Strzelecki / – born in 1905, lived with his father in a house in Kałusz. It was also there that he met his future Ukrainian wife, Katarzyna Humen. Despite his parents' objections, he married her in 1924. He had an only son, Zenon, born on in 1930 and five daughters. I know from my grandfather's stories that in 1943 he died at the hands of the Ukrainians. His nearly 15‑year‑old son also died with him. They were both surrounded by Banderites and drowned in the marshes near Kalush.

Henryk (Benedykt, Tadeusz) of three names was the youngest s/o my great–grandfather Kazimierz Strzetelski. He was born on July 12, 1918 in Kadobna, just before the end of World War I and on the eve of regaining independence by Poland. After graduating from high school, Henryk begins veterinary studies at the Academy of Veterinary Medicine in Lviv. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the war prevented him from completing his studies. From the stories of my grandfather Czesław and from my father's account, I know that Henryk was murdered by Ukrainian nationalists (UPA gangs) near Kałusz at the beginning of 1944, at the age of 26. The brutality and cruelty of the Ukrainians manifested themselves in the fact that the torturers hung Henryk by his legs from a tree and opened his belly. His fiancée, whose tormentors cut off her breasts, probably also died with him.

Witness Włodzimierz Bogucki: „In one of the actions we found ourselves in a housing estate near Kałusz. A priest crucified on the barn door and hooks with harrows instead of nails. The priest's housekeeper cut up, the organist sawed in half, a baby torn in the bushes  […] It is often accused that BCh and Home Army AK units behaved similarly towards Ukrainians. However, somehow I did not find clear evidence anywhere. But I remember that on our way back from this town full of victims, we found a mine that we wanted to blow up on the farm of Stefan Bandera's relatives. Our commander banned us, unless someone shoots us. He said we were the military, not the” gang.
