Jeziorany Szlacheckie
The UPA and Ukrainian peasants robbed and burned Polish farms and murdered at least 49 Poles. The elderly married couple, Michał and Franciszek Oman, burned in a haystack with music and dancing; 59‑year‑old Józef Butkiewicz was stuck a nail in the forehead and left a card: Win mene chlibom kornyw, and I, joho, for this loss. It was done by a Ukrainian servant, whom the Pole treated like a son, incl. he gave him a big wedding.

After the gang left Janek, she crawled to her father lying on the edge of the forest, who was still moaning. She saw that he had been injured on his right shoulder and had an 8–inch nail embedded in his temple. He died in a moment. Then Janka crawled to the burned barn where the charred body of her mother was lying. It should be assumed that she was burnt alive because she had only shot through her legs […] In the buildings of the Oman family, she saw the murdered mother and the youngest daughter (about 18 years old) entwined in an embrace. They were administered a dozen stabs with a knife or bayonet.

Memoirs of Franciszek Kułakowski. In 1943, a gang of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army killed Franciszka and Michał Osmański in Jeziorka Szlachecka. The criminals threw their bodies into a burning barn. After the war, the family only found a few ankles and my grandfather's golden teeth. „When people realized what was going on, Self–Defense posts began to appear – says Mr. Franciszek. – I also found myself in such a group on June 19, 1943 at the school in Maćkowce. On that day, however, the Banderites attacked Jeziorany Szlacheckie. Samoobrona did not manage to organize itself. The Ukrainians murdered many people. Including my Ottoman grandparents. I lost 18 people from my family then”. Fortunately, his mother and her youngest brother left for Lutsk earlier. She was safe there, because Poles were not attacked in the cities. My father took refuge with a Czech friend in Jeziorany Szlacheckie. „There he witnessed the Ukrainians murdering the miller's 11–person family during the day. After three months he broke through to Lutsk […] ” – says Mr. Franciszek. – „I still remember how late we were when we received a signal that a Polish family of Dziarkowski stayed in one of the estates, some 12 kilometers from Przebraż […] ” – recalls Mr. Franciszek. —„On the spot, we found the body of the host hacked up on the doorstep. In the hall we discovered a dead woman with an unbuttoned fetus, and in other places the massacred bodies of a 10‑year‑old girl and a 12‑year‑old boy. It was a terrible sight”.

„The night glow of the fires in the neighboring villages indicated a threat and they were not delusional fears. On June 19, 1943 at 9.00 am Jeziorany Szlacheckie village was attacked by a large Ukrainian gang. 250 Poles and 50 Ukrainians lived in Jeziorany. The attack took place on the north–west side of the village. And in this part of the village, 50 Poles were murdered. Self–defense unit with a few weapons did not protect the village, especially since the attack took place in the morning after the immediate threat seemed to be over. This was an exception, as all attacks had so far been carried out at night or at dawn.
From my immediate family were murdered:
1. Omański Michał, 85‑years‑old, my grandfather
2. Omańska Franciszka, 80‑years‑old, my grandmother
3. Omański Edward, 60‑years‑old, my uncle
4. Omański Michał, 60‑years‑old, my uncle
5. Omańska Janina, 45‑years‑old, my aunt
6. Omańska Leokadia, 40‑years‑old, my cousin and her daughter, 15‑years‑old
7. Omańska Elizabeth, 70‑years‑old, my cousin
8. Szadurski Tadeusz, 60‑years‑old, my cousin
9. Szadurski Jan, 55‑years‑old, my cousin
10. Sebastiański Marian, 55‑years‑old, my uncle
11. Sebastiańska Helena, 30‑years‑old, my cousin
12. Błędowski Adolf, 20‑years‑old, my cousin
13. Błędowska Weronika, 17‑years‑old, my cousin
14. Czajkowska Maria, 40‑years‑old, my cousin
The rest were my friends, inhabitants of Jeziorany Szlacheckie”.
