The UPA and Ukrainian peasants from the villages of Huszcza and Przekurka murdered over 100 Poles with axes, pitchforks, poles and other tools, 88 of whom are known by name. „about 200 The Ukrainians entered the village from the north side of the forest, partly armed with firearms and partly with farm tools, such as axes and pitchforks. The attackers began to systematically plunder and burn farms, killing every inhabitant they came across […] This is where my aunt Karolina Solipiwko lived with her husband and five children – says Zdzisław Koguciuk, moved. He tells how four children hid in a potato cellar. The oldest son covered his siblings with his body and, looking through the window, he witnessed the murder of his parents and his 8–month–old brother, who fell into the hands of the Ukrainians. – It is not known how they died, because their bodies were not found, probably burnt. It must have been a monstrous crime, because the young man who saw it later became confused and spent the rest of his life in a psychiatric hospital, Mr. Koguciuk tells the family story […] Meanwhile, in the part of the village occupied by Ukrainians, real Dantean scenes were taking place. Katarzyna Dyczko née Grabowska remembers them, running away with her 3‑year‑old nephew in her arms. «Running out of the barn, we already saw the burning village and heard the terrible, terrifying scream of ‹rescue›» – she reported. «During the escape, bullets whistled near us, but we did not turn our heads, we only stopped at the station in Jagodzin». as it turned out, Katarzyna Dyczko's neighbor, Teresa Petruk, shouted, who was murdered by the Ukrainians in a cruel way, having previously chopped off her hands with an ax. Some of the accounts in the collection of Zdzisław Koguciuk are of unique value today, as they were made by people who are no longer alive. This applies to shocking memories of Mrs. Helena Stachniuk from Chełm. Her father was smashed to death by the Ukrainians with a wooden stake. as a little girl, she witnessed the shooting of her mother and four‑year‑old brother Frank. That day she also lost her grandmother and sister. «I was left alone, I hugged my mother, I took my breath away so that the perpetrators would think that I was dead» – says Helena in her account. «When they set fire to the buildings, they ran on. the flames spread farther and farther until they reached my mother and me. I started putting out the fire on my own. It worked, but I was left naked because what I was wearing was burnt. I went to the crowd, pulled out some clothes, I hugged me in front and headed for the road. On the way, I saw my grandmother with her head split open and my eldest sister, Marysia, with her leg torn from a bullet, and by her a pool of blood» […] One of the Ukrainians living in Jankowce itself – Ivan Szpak – was truly bloodthirsty. after the village was taken over by an OUN–UPA unit, he entered the yard of his neighbors, the Grabowski family, with whom he had previously maintained very good relations with an ax. He murdered two of them, and the third – Michalina Grabowska – chopped off his hand. The woman survived […] The village, with almost 150 numbers and inhabited by over 600 people, is now a retreat overgrown with bushes. It is impossible to get here with a dry foot, as the unregulated river changes its bed during rainfall and flows along a road overgrown with bushes, which has not been used for nearly 70 years […] Those who did not burn completely lie buried somewhere in makeshift graves scattered in the area of the extinct village”.

The fate of the other orphaned children was also tragic […] Stanisław Grzywna, who was 14 years old at the time of the attack, cannot forget the tragic Monday. Before she ran away she heard excruciating screams coming from a farm situated almost 150 meters away, which already belonged to a neighboring village called Zamostecze, into which the Banderites had entered. A family with ten young children lived there. – These terrifying screams could be nothing but murdering these children.

At the beginning of September, the UPA murdered two Poles who had gone to their village: „These were the endeavors of their cousins, Stefan and Stanisław Szewczuk. In early September, they sowed grain in their field in Jankowce. The Ukrainians got their hands on them when they returned to Jagodzin after work, where they spent the night with their family. «They killed Stanisław on the spot, and Stefan started to run away, but they caught him, stabbed him with bayonets and cut off the tongue» – recalls the relative of the murdered anna Ryszkiewicz in her account. «They were found and buried in the cemetery in Rymacze» – adds”.
