The Ukrainians murdered several Polish families; including a widow with 3 children, a family of 4 brought from Gaj and a few local families; a school–age girl Helena Cymbała was murdered by the UPA leader in Janówka by Telemon Majdaniec with an ax and a shovel. Majdaniec with his militia kidnapped the widow of Szwedowa and her children from Gaj to Janówka; daughters 9 and 11 years old, son Władysław, 10 years old, son Tadeusz, 23 years old with his wife and 2.5 year old son. In early September, he murdered them with sharp tools, simultaneously murdering Karol Szwed, who lived in Janówka, with his wife and two children.
