general info

Hallerówka

The Ukrainians murdered a young Polish couple in a military settlement. Witness Teresa Ciechońska lived in the neighboring settlement of Basowy Kąt. In 1943 she was still a child, but remembers most of the events from that end. Today he remembers his relatives and neighbors who claimed that no one would hurt them because they had lived here for years and had done nothing wrong to anyone. „The village of Halerówka was nearby and my parents had good friends there. They were marrying their daughter. Just a modest ceremony, because the young wanted to get married. They asked my mother for a old lady. I remember baking a cinnamon cake. Today I bake so often. Yeast with cinnamon. She said that since she is an old lady, she will do so much to make sure that the tradition is there and to give everyone a little bit. The young ones went on their own, and after about six months the father came with the message, that they murdered them cruelly. The young people escaped to the basement and caught them there. My father said that the potatoes in the cellar were stained with blood and that the boy had his head cut off. Like this child, I went to the funeral with a group of siblings and other kids and, like this child, I pushed my way. The priest was speaking and at one point he took his head by the hair and lifted it. He was terribly concerned and talked about how mankind had come to such cruelty. He spoke and people cried terribly. I ran away and I don't remember when I got home. This is how I experienced”.
