Gruszwica
The UPA murdered 18 Poles: „The news began to reach Przebraż that in the coming weeks they intend to exterminate us all «head after head», similarly to the Jews, even though they originally intended to «wybyty wsich uczanych» [«exterminate the educated ones»]. It quickly turned out that the UPA was not joking. Native Polish towns north of Przebraż were burned, such as the small village of Gruszwice, where 18 people were murdered, Łysa Góra, Zacisze, Cegielnia, Krakowszczyzna, Chmielówka, Kruchlik, Horodyczyn, Łąka, Wielki Las, Pniów and Ignatówka. The Banderites also dissolved their fields from the east and south, from Przebraż, burning, destroying and murdering the population of: Józefina, Marianówka, Bud, Dermanka, Balarki, Wólka Kotowska, Alexandria, Wertepa, Tworymysza and Aleksandrówka. During its march, the UPA blew up a number of Polish villages near Kiwert, burned down Polish houses located in Polish villages and in Khutorach, among others in Trościaniec, Jaroml and Stara Czołnica. Fugitives from the murdered villages were drawn to Przebraż from all sides. A huge mass of people gathered in it very quickly”.
