Frankamionka

The UPA massacred over 30 Poles with the help of axes, forks, scythes etc.

source: Żurek Stanisław, „Calendar of the genocide – March 1944”; in: portal: Volhynia — web page: wolyn.org [accessible: 2021.02.04]

On March 23, 1944, Ukrainian nationalists murdered several dozen Poles in the village of Frankamionka (commune of Miączyn). The families of Cisek, Głowacki, Serafin, Borowski from Hostynny, Popików died from the blows of knives and axes…
The biggest tragedy took place in the house of Andrzej Serafin, where 10 people took refuge, including: Borowscy, Wilczyńscy from Malice, Teresa Serafin with her daughters — 13‑year‑old Zosia and 5‑year‑old Aurelia, and their cousins Cisek: 18‑year‑old Wanda, two years younger Lucyna and only 4‑year‑old Danusia.
Ukrainian nationalists rush inside, they cut and slash a child or a man, doesn't matter, without mercy  […] . The slaughtered people are raving. Mothers tear their children from the hands of bandits. They scream into high heaven, they kneel before the torturers of their brothers and sisters. Children die and their blood spurts from under their shoes onto their parents' faces” — that's how Józef Strzelecki described the massacre.
Lucjan Serafin, [‑] then a Polish Home Army AK soldier, was away from home and that is why he managed to survive the attack. He managed to hide behind the barn and watched what the criminals were doing. He described it in a letter sent to the editorial office  […]
Being behind Popik's barn, I saw Albina Popik running between the buildings on our farm. A 'rhezun', Ukrainian murdered, ran up to her and he leveled his bayonet at her. She grabbed his hands and knocked him to the ground. The second 'rhezun' on horseback came and I heard a shot. Murderer, whom she had knocked over, got up and Popikowa was lying in the snow”.
After these events, Lucjan Serafin fled with a few friends to the nearby Koniuchy. There, on the tracks, stood a German armored train in which many inhabitants of Frankamionka took refuge.

source: Czubara Krzysztof, „Slaughter of Frankamionka”; in: „Zamość Weekly”, in: 11/2006 — web page: www.tygodnikzamojski.pl [accessible: 2021.06.26]

The first attack on the village by the genocidal UPA was carried out on March 23, 1944 by about 250 bandits. At about two o'clock after midnight, the Banderites attack began. There was a rain of rocket lights, red and white. Several short bursts from machine guns rang out, and shattered glass rattled in the windows.
The surprise of the population as well as the self–defense was total. The self–defense unit did not manage to organize the action. The Banderites set fire to the village from several sides and murdered on the spot all the Poles they had captured or who had fallen into their hands. They were:
Danuta Cisek (4), Lucyna Cisek (16), Wanda Cisek (19), Maria Dąbrowska (57), Leonard Głowacki (40), Mikołaj Głowacki (72), a man named Kalisiak (60) , a woman named Kalisiak (53), Anna Krecun (41), Teresa Stefania Łukaszczuk (66), Paweł Popik (48), Albina Popik, Bronisława Pietrus (30), Andrzej Serafin, Aurelia Serafin (6)), Teresa Serafin (24), Zofia Serafin (12), Józef Stankiewicz (67), Marcin Wiącek, his wife and their underage son, Piotr Zięba and his wife and 7 people N N.
A total of 30 people were killed.
They murdered everyone without exception — women, children, men and old men, resorting to the most brutal and sophisticated methods. Some Banderites were armed with pitchforks and scythes, which were used to kill people.
Only thanks to the help of the Polish Home Army AK soldiers from the 'Wiklina' company commanded by Lt. 'Richard', even bigger massacre did not take place. This AK unit saved the lives of many inhabitants of Frankamionka.
On April 9, 1944, the UPA 'Hałajda' sotnya again attacked Polish farms in Frankamionka. The successful counterattack of a platoon from the 'Wiklina' company prevented the village from burning down completely. There were probably no casualties this time.
