Others date the murder to the summer of 1944: „Józefa Żak b. in 1919 she was burnt down in a cowshed (Żaków colony). Her body was huddled under the manger. Only the face and hands were not burned. Michał Żak – born 1921 – stabbed with knives or bayonets. Burned in the barn on Józef's farm. The corpse lay in the middle of the barn, slightly scorched. He wasn't burned on his back. Before their death, Józefa and Michał had already lived with their mother Agnieszka in Kałusz, but they went to get the rest of their belongings. During the night they came to Ukraine. They began to search the buildings. They fled to the attic of the house. They were found there, tied together and thrown downstairs. While flying, the rope was untied. Józefa escaped to the stable and Michał was cut up and thrown into the barn. They were burned there. There was also a farmhand – an orphan. He came from Central Poland. Age 25. He was shot. His body was found in the bushes near the house. Żak's wife, Andrzej (called uncle Jędrzejów) from Kałusz, on a hot summer day, went to Dąbrowa (emphasis by S. Ż.), Because Agnieszka's siblings Michał and Józef did not come back. She was the bravest. In Dąbrowa she found the bodies of relatives and a farmhand and buried them together. Walking from the colony towards Dąbrowa, she also found the murdered Ukrainian fiancé, Józefa, who was returning home. He had 7 stab wounds. She also buried him and returned to Kałusz, where she told the family about everything”.
