Czuczmany Zabłotne

Testimony of Kupiak's liaison officer Sławka Falińska nom–de–guerre „Osyka”, currently Susabowska. „While participating in Kupiak's «Kleja»'s fight, I learned from him, Michał Pociłujka and Bogdan Czuczman that their militia had murdered the Maksymiszyn family and his brother and his wife. Before and during the war, Maksymiszyn had a shop in Busko. at the beginning of 1944, with his family and brother, he left for the village of Czuczmany Zabłotne and took his property with him with gold, furs and other valuable things. Everyone knew that he was a rich man and that is why Kupiak decided to murder him in order to seize his fortune. I don't know who was involved in this murder. Later, when I left for Poland with Kupiak, he had a caracul fur, stolen from the Maksymiszyn family. There were three furs in general, one of them belonged to Bolesław's wife. Kupiak sold these furs in a commission store in Wrocław. Pociłujko and Michał Horbacz told me that after the murder of the family, they took the gold, dollars and other valuable things that Kupiak had appropriated, instead of sharing with others, as previously arranged. all this proves that the Maksymiszyn family was murdered in order to plunder”. and this is how the witness Włodzimierz Pałyga presents the same events: „During the German occupation, Bolesław Maksymiszyn had his own commission shop in Busko. Everyone knew that he had made a great fortune. at the time of the second Soviet occupation, Bolesław Maksymiszyn with his wife, four‑year‑old daughter and old mother, as well as his brother Eugeniusz and his wife, moved from Busko to the village of Czuczmany Zabłotne. He lived in my house for a while, later with the Łukasiewicz family and finally moved to Włodzimierz Kokor. When the Maksymiszyn family lived with us, their mother said that Kupiak threatened her sons that they would be punished if they joined the Red army. The Maksymiszyn family took their most valuable belongings from Busko. at the end of August 1944, Kupiak entered the Łukasiewicz's cottage, where Bolesław lived with his wife, daughter and mother at that time, with some bandits and ordered Bolesław to go with him to Bołożynów, a village a few kilometers away. On the way, behind our village, Kupiak ordered Bolesław to march ahead and shot him in the back of the head. after this murder, he returned with the bandits to the village, took brother Eugeniusz and murdered in the forest where he had already killed his brother Bolesław. The bandits returned to the village for the third time, called the wives of Bolesław and Eugeniusz and told them, that their husbands are waiting for them behind the village. Without suspecting anything, both women went with the bandits, and Bolesław's wife also took her little daughter with her. Behind the village they were all murdered. On the same day, «glue» murdered the mother of the Maksymiszyn family, Maria. She was grazing a cow in the field. Kupiak approached her with an inhabitant of the village, Ivan Petryca, who was also a member of the gang, and told her to take them to the forester's house. She replied that she was not a local one and did not know the way to the forester's lodge. The bandits forced her to go with them, but she resisted and then Kupiak took out a pistol and shot her. It was seen by young boys, Włodzimierz Daćko and Emil Petryszyn, who were grazing the cows nearby. They told me about it and showed me the place where the bandit Ivan Petryca buried the body of the murdered old woman. On the same day, Kupiak and his bandits came to my cottage and took all the things of the Maksymiszyn family that were left about me when they moved to another farmer. I know that the bandits took the Maksymiszyn's belongings from Łukasiewicz, where Bolesław lived with his family, and from Daćek, with whom brother Eugeniusz and his wife lived”.
