general info
Chmielówka
The UPAs murdered two Polish women with axes and pitchforks: a mother with a 15‑year‑old daughter named Masztalerz. Others: „In the first days of June 1943, a large unit of self–defense from Przebraż organized a transport for the Polish population still living in Kołki and nearby colonies […] Almost everyone from our colony joined the transport to Przebraże. Only three families remained, including ours. On the next morning, our only Ukrainian neighbor came running scared and warned us to run away immediately, because 15 Bandera followers were preparing to murder us in their house. She was risking her life because if they found out she had gone to warn us, they would have killed her and her entire family. We were ready to go in a matter of minutes. Only with bundles in hand and dog Żuk on a leash, we escaped through a nearby forest, along side paths to Chmielówka. It was a Polish colony near Przebraż. It was only necessary to walk through the forest. There we stayed with our cousin Stanisław Drzewiński. We lived there for a few weeks, when the Bandera followers attacked Chmielówka on Saturday evening. We barely escaped alive. We all fled to Przebraże. They robbed the entire Chmielówka and burnt it. Several people died, but I do not know exactly how many. I know that our cousin's father–in–law Adam Rosiński has died. It was an old man and he walked with a cane. On the next day, the men from Przebraż went to see what had happened in Chmielówka and found Rosiński murdered on the path. He had a broken head”.
