Chełm
According to the account of Ms Nestowska, submitted on March 9, 2004, after the arrival of the Ukrainian SS unit in Chełm and Hrubieszów, periods analogous to those in Galicia begin. Eight people were killed in Chełm only because they are Poles. Six landowners were murdered and plundered in Hrubieszów. This is a feat of Kościuk's gang, former commune administrator in Chełm. The villages are going up in smoke, the people are running away towards Lublin. In the Chełmskie voivodeship, the Ukrainians threaten that there is the same threat as in the Hrubieszowski district. The authorities on the spot did not react. The authorities are forcing the people to do fortification works, using also the Polish army to put pressure on the population. KO, threatening to arrest the Committee in the event of failure to comply with this request. Even the employees of the Committee have to work on robots (14 people work). The Ukrainian SS supervises the workers. Krakow, March 11, 1944.

Fragment of the protocol of the examination of the bodies of Paweł and Maria Wasyńczuk drawn up by the investigative director of MO Ignacy Górnicki from the MO police station in Chełm:
„In the apartment of a house in Chełm, at ul. 2 in the bedroom on the floor of Browarna Street, there are 2 corpses belonging to Wasyńczuk Paweł and Wasyńczuk Maria. Wasyńczuk Paweł's corpse is situated legs to the east and head to the west. The body was dressed in a cycling cap, jacket, trousers, socks and black shoes. In the area of the left ear, a stream of dried blood runs to the face, and a large stain of dried blood runs from the head. The corpse is placed upside down with both hands placed under the face.
The corpse of Wasyńczuk Maria lies parallel to the described ones, with its legs to the west and its head to the east. The body is wearing a handkerchief on its head, [in] a patched overcoat, stockings, socks, black shoes. A large pool of partially clotted blood runs down the floor from the head to the floor. Fragment of the interrogation report of Maria Iwanowska about the murder of Paweł and Maria Wasyńczuk:
„On April 18, 1945, around 6 PM, I left my apartment with the intention of going to my friend and saw 5 men walking, dressed in civilian clothes, wearing Polish army caps and horns. 4, and one of them was wearing a civilian cyclist's cap […] These people turned me back, saying:
— «Go back, because the Resort is coming, it will search and go».
I returned to my apartment […] And all of them, as an exception, held handguns with thin barrels in their hands. Four of them entered the apartment of Paweł's neighbor Wasyńczuk, and one remained outside and watched.
After I came to the apartment, curious, I leaned back from the window in the wall separating my parents' apartment from Wasyńczuk's apartment and noticed how 2 individuals were led by Maria Wasyńczuk from the kitchen to the room, the subject wearing a white sheepskin coat hit M [aria] Wasyńczuk in the face. When I saw that he hit her and threw the floor, I wanted to go to the Militia, but one of them was watching over her. And I did not notice Wasyńczuk Paweł in the room through the above–mentioned window, only his sister Maria was lying quietly without words. Then these individuals took Wasyńczuk furs on themselves and various Wasyńczuk belongings in the suitcase. Then Maria Wasyńczuk, lying down, begged them to leave the things they had taken. And they, without saying anything, took what they liked. Later, the one who was standing outside came to our apartment, telling us not to be afraid. Having said that, he left the apartment, closing the door to our apartment.
Then I saw through the window how these individuals gathered in the first room from the kitchen, and two of them shot at Maria Wasyńczuk and began to leave the apartment with crowds […] Those who shot M [aria] Wasyńczuk, one of them was in a cap and the other in a flat cap. They both got down on one knee while shooting”.
