On the night of 8/9/09/1945, a group of Ukrainian nationalists murdered Jan Mielnik, the mayor of the village of Malawa, and the mayor of the village of Brzeżawa. After the murder, windows in houses abandoned by Poles were broken. Both murdered village leaders were of Ukrainian nationality.
