Boremel
The Ukrainians murdered 10 Poles. „Doctor Wadiusz Kiesz, a legend of the health service in Starachowice, tutor of many generations of doctors, spent the war in his home town of Boreml in Volhynia […] In 1943, the murders of Poles began. Villages were burning more and more. – I've seen terrible things. 5–6‑year‑old children impaled on rails in the fence, human corpses flowing down the Styr River. Once with my colleagues in Lutsk «we pulled out a raft» made of three women tied with barbed wire, with split bellies, cut off breasts, without eyes. at least their bodies were buried in Lutsk – says doctor Kiesz. about 60 Poles remained in Boreml after deportations to Siberia and escapes. There was no one to defend them because only the commander, former non–commissioned officer of the Polish army and one policeman were not nationalists from the local police. On April 9, 1943, bandits from the Ukrainian National army attacked Boremel. Earlier, the policemen strangled their commandant and buried them in the basement. First, they attacked the Sienkiewicz house. They killed a family senior. Julia Sienkiewicz ran away, ran to the center of the town, told about the gang. Fortunately, there was a German economic officer in the town. He called a nearby Demodówki for help. When the Germans arrived, the Ukrainians escaped in carts. They killed 10 Poles then. The paramedic Kiesz took care of the injured. – In one, the father of the family was killed. 4 sons left. When my father came in he saw how the eldest, maybe 10 years old, was hiding his younger brothers. He had tears in his eyes when he saw it – says Dr. Kiesz”.

Others: „On April 8, they attacked the Marmucki family in Boreml, surrounded the house, poured gasoline on it and lit it at midnight. They lay down two by each window and took aim. There was my married sister Mania, nee Zawilska, and if they look in the window, there is a bandit everywhere, and husband Stasio is holding a 7–month–old daughter in his arm and looking at how to escape from this fire and her sick mother screams: don't throw me in this fire, take me out me outside. Meanwhile, Mania took the child from her husband, which he did not want to give her, because he was holding it close to his heart, beloved Terenia, but Mania, hearing his mother's voice that take me away, do not throw me, shouted to Staś: give me the child and you take mum under the arm and take it out of the fire. and Staś gave the child to Mania, and he took his mother himself and they went out through the porch, because there no one was lying there with a rifle. Mania exclaimed: Mother of God of Częstochowa, save us! and the first one jumped with the child from the porch stairs and ran towards the village, and flying with the child in her hand, she saw an incendiary ball flying towards her every now and then, just one in front of the other and running up the hill, and she was going up the hill slowly and without interruption. they shot her. Mania looked after Staś and her mother–in–law and saw the dead man lying with his mother under the linden tree by the porch in the firelight. Oh my God! she sighed and walking slowly with the thought that they would kill me as well, and bullets whistled next to her and none of them hit. She went up the hill to one Ukrainian cottage and knocked for them to open, they said that if you ran away from them, run away, because we are not allowed to let you go home. She went to the other one with the idea of leaving the child and she wanted to return to her husband and his mother, what is happening to them, maybe they are alive, are injured and need help? But also this Ukrainian woman yells through the window that «twitch» as you escaped. She went to the third Ukrainian woman and she said that I cannot take you to the hut, but go to the pigsty and there is hay there, hide in the hay. She went to that stable, covered herself with hay, and it was probably already 3 in the morning and stayed there until morning. It was April 8, the rain with snow pounded in her face, and she was barefoot in her husband's shoes and in her nightgown, and she grabbed her husband's wedding jacket from the wardrobe and the baby from the bed was taken in a blanket. In the morning, a Ukrainian woman came to the shed, gave her a dirty and milk cloth for the child. She went to her fire, Stasiu was not lying in his place under the linden tree, but he was dragged to the fire with his mother, his legs were tanned, and apparently he was alive, only seriously injured, because he covered his face with his shirt, and my mother was half–burned, and my father–in–law was guarding them and was sitting in the toilet by the stable, and the bandits came so close that he could not let them know at home. He himself escaped to the reeds by the Styr River and was sitting there. How Mania came with the baby and put the baby on the ground, and she herself dug the hole and shut the husband and his mother to bury him. Meanwhile, she covered it with boards and the child was crying, then Father Marmucki emerged from the reeds when the child was crying. Lamentation, great despair. Well, it's cold. Father went to Boreml to visit friends, and Mania, through the Ukrainian fields, went to her mother, to the Czech colony of Sergiejówka, where her mother and sister Hela stayed with her uncle Ignacy Myka for a week. after her tragedy, a week ago, the Ukrainians killed her husband, two sons and two brothers, Zawilski. That is, I will list in turn which Poles fell victim to the brutal murder of Ukrainians: apolinary Zawilski, son Szczepan, son Marian, Mieczysław and Bronisław Berezowski, Biernodzio and Domański Bolesław. This was the number of 9 coffins killed at once”.
