„We were not sure of our life any day, or rather night.
And it finally happened. On the night of March 13‑14, they attacked Bobulinka. They murdered Fr Suszczyński together with 24 other people, mostly women and children.
Death of Fr Suszczyński was described by Fr Anczarski. I will only add a detail. The priest equipped his house with shutters and, barricading the door, hid with his mother in the attic. During the attack, he opened the window in the attic, calling for help and warning the villagers about the attack. He was spotted and got hit in the forehead with a burst of from an automatic weapon. From the attic window a neat ribbon of blood ran down the whitewashed wall. The priest's 80‑year‑old mother, who was hiding with her son, survived […]
The victims of the murder were buried after a short service in the church, in a common long grave in the cemetery. Other witnesses have denied this, claiming that they were buried in the churchyard. I see no reason however not to believe the account of a living eyewitness. The priest was buried in a coffin made hastily made of planks, painted with soot dissolved in milk. The rest were buried in whatever was possible. The woman who was murdered sitting on the stool under which she hid her surviving infant child was buried in this frozen sitting position in a chest used to store grain.
[…] That red ribbon of blood on the white wall seemed […] very blatant to the local Ukrainians, so soon one night before the Soviet army arrived, it was scraped off”.
