Babice nad Sanem
Fragment of the report of the interrogation of Helena Hnat by Jan Rydz from the MO in Krzywcza as a witness to the murder of a Ukrainian, Ivan Hnata in Babice:
„On 22 February 1945, about 24 unknown individuals knocked sharply at our apartment, where my father–in–law, late Hnat Jan asked who was there. Then one of the individuals said in Polish:
— «Open up, old man, do not be afraid, you will ride with us on the wagon».
We realized that there were bandits by the window, we all escaped up the ladder to the attic of our house. The bandits then broke the back door to the hallway of our house and violently burst into the apartment. There were all 6 of them in the apartment armed with firearms […] After packing all the things, one of them said to his father:
— «Come on, old man, harness the horses».
When the father harnessed the horses to the cart, they ordered my father to throw off his shoes or one of the torturers took off his shoes. When he took the shoes out of the yard onto the wagon, he returned to his apartment. I heard a shot, at the same time the lamp went out, and when my son cried out in the apartment,
— «grandpa!»
This one did not speak up anymore, then I realized that my father was killed”.

1945 February 24, Krzywcza — Report of the militia MO station in Krzywcza for the County Office in Przemyśl about the murder of Fr Anatoly Sembratowicz in Babice:
„I report that on February 23, 1945, around 22.30 3 bandits armed with firearms burst into the unsealed apartment of the Greek Catholic priest Sembratowicz Anatoly, over 60 years old, Ruthenian, married, living in Babice, Krzywcza commune, Przemyśl poviat, and there they forced the household members to lie down on the floor, after which they plundered the clothes men and women, tableware and food. After packing the things, one of the perpetrators of the robbery shot three shots in the head from the machine by Fr Sembratowicz with a dead body on the spot.
On the alarm triggered by the inhabitants of the Babice cluster, they hurried away towards Przedmieście Babickie. During the robbery, the other part of the gang surrounded the market square in Babice, terrorized the night watch and forced her to lie [on] the ground. At the same time, she gave several series of the machine to the inhabitants on their way to help.
As a result of the strong alarm, the population of Babice began to gather in various parts of the town, seeing what the bandits retreated, the 3rd part of the gang manned the trenches behind Babice from the side of Dubiecko, began firing the Babice group from machine gun and hand grenades were thrown.
After the robbery, the gang left in an unknown direction with the stolen loot. Sembratowicz spoke Polish, and the gang that manned the market in Russian and Ukrainian.
Investigations in this matter are conducted by the local MO Post, after which a detailed report will be submitted […]

1951 January 21, Przemyśl — Fragment of Józef Szpiech's interrogation protocol:
„I also heard about the murder of the Ukrainian priest Sembratowicz N. [name of priest Anatol — BH] It was in Babice [February 23, 1945], at what time, I do not know, at least before the murder of priest Demianczyk. I know that Sembratowicz initially lived in Bachów, and then moved to Babice. I do not know who else they murdered then, but it seems to me that only Father Sembratowicz himself was shot. As I know, Father Sembratowicz also lived well with the Polish people and was impartial for both. The Ukrainian population from the Skopów cluster, as well as the neighboring clusters, said that the murders were committed by Poles.
[…] I heard that some actions were organized against the Bachs and others, I do not know who perpetrated them. Only Ukrainians said that it was done by Poles, and I justify it with the fact that it was actually true, because Ukrainians were murdered in the course of these actions, which is the fact that the Ukrainians did not attack and murdered Ukrainian villages”.
