Adamówka

In 1943, 4 people from the Brożek family were murdered: their parents and their 2 sons. Her daughter Leokadia, who was seriously injured, and her son, Seweryn, who were absent at the time, were saved. After returning home, he took her to a hospital in Lviv.

Tearing the hair off the head with the skin or nailing small children around a thick roadside tree, thus creating the so–called „wreaths” are just some of the soulless methods of killing Poles. My aunt and her family did not miss it, they were treated in a similar way. Leokadia survived, although she was shot in the knee, head and arm. Her brother Seweryn was not at home then and it was thanks to him that she survived. He came back from a trip and the only thing he found was a village that was no longer there, and his family home, where he had no warm dinner waiting for him. However, he managed to tease his sister – Lodzia, whom he quickly transported to the hospital in Lviv. A Jewish doctor had to amputate her arm, sew up any gunshot wounds, dress the bruises and prevent infection. The wounds on the body, although deep, were much smaller than those on the soul. After all, no child can safely assume that those gentlemen who came in the evening killed her entire family – mummy, daddy and siblings in an extremely cruel way. And their only fault was that they were Poles. After leaving the hospital, Leokadia and Seweryn were taken care of by their aunt – Helena. The last years of the war were a constant escape for them, they had no chance of creating a new home. They fled towards the former central Poland. They reached Krakow. During the so–called Round–ups, on Sunday afternoon 1944 only Lodzia managed to slip away. Seweryn did not find himself anymore. At twelve, she was left alone in the world. After the war, her cousin, and my great–grandmother – Luba Rucińska, found her thanks to the Polish Red Cross in an orphanage in Warsaw. who came in the evening killed her entire family – mummy, daddy and siblings in an extremely cruel way.
